Joana has worked as an actor across film, television and stage. Most recently, she had guest roles in American series Preacher, for Frontier Productions, and online ABC comedy series The Housemate.

She appeared in a main cast role as the infamous Raimunda De Castro in the Emmy and BAFTA award-winning miniseries Mrs Biggs for Seven Network and UKITV.  In 2014, Joana played Mrs. Yousef in the Australian feature film Healing alongside Hugo Weaving and Don Hany.

She has appeared in several short films including Alethea Jones’ Girl In The Moon and Corrie Chen’s Alasturia.

In 2015 Joana made her MTC stage debut as Valeria and Karoline in I Call My Brothers, directed by Nadja Kostich. A winner of the Malthouse Theatre Development Award for her performance of Truth Machine for the Malthouse Theatre her other stage credits include Love Boy directed by Susie Dee, Fate directed by Tariro Mavondo both for the Arts Centre Melbourne and Tenderness for the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Sydney directed by Nadja Kostich.

Joana has trained at the 16th Street Acting Studio and Howard Fine Actors Studio as well as completing extensive training with Robert Draffin (Liminal Theatre), Mary Sitarenos and Leonid Verzub (Moscow Art Theatre).

In 2008, Joana worked under mentor and acclaimed writer Christos Tsiolkas (The Slap) to write and perform in the stage production of Waking in Angola (La Mama).
